Kenya Power Official Brutally Attacked, Passes On While Receiving Treatment
An officer of the Kenya Power was seriously injured after an attack while on duty in Isiolo County, the company has said.
The employee, who works as a meter reader, was attacked on Thursday, April 9, while on duty.
He is said to have sustained serious injuries necessitating his being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical treatment.
In a statement after the attack, Kenya Power said the officer was seriously injured, prompting the decision to bring him to the capital.
Kenya Power further condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable and undermining service delivery to customers.
“Kenya Power strongly condemns the attack on one of our field officers, a meter reader, which occurred earlier today in Isiolo while he was on duty,” the company said in a statement.

While the matter has already been reported to relevant authorities, and investigations into the matter have commenced, Kenya Power called on the public to support the workforce as the company continues to serve across the country.
However, the assaulted officer did not make it after medical doctors tried their best.
The KPLC has issued a statement on the passing of the official while calling upon security organs to act decisively.

Most officers and contractors are mainly attacked while on duty, often while disconnecting illegal connections or enforcing unpaid bills.
Notable incidents include a 20-year prison sentence for a man who shot a staffer with an arrow and a 2023 assault by Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai on a technician.
The Kenya Power employee attacked by Mbai was caught off guard by the incident, as CCTV footage captured him hanging loosely on the verge of falling from an electric pole as he pleaded for mercy from the MP.
