Senators Ole Kina, Mungatana Exchange Jabs Over Imported Fuel Directors
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina and Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana differed on Tuesday during the interrogation of company directors allegedly linked to the importation of oil described as substandard.
The exchange took place during an ongoing Senate probe into the fuel importation matter, which has been linked to reports of fuel shortages in the country.
The committee is examining allegations of irregular emergency imports, quality concerns, and possible irregularities in the handling of millions of litres of fuel.
During the session, Mungatana defended the directors as Ole Kina pressed them for responses, saying they required more time to prepare.
He argued that the directors were requesting additional time and information, and were not evading accountability.
“These are just witnesses who are just asking for information, asking for time. Let’s stop bullying people. I’m not going to give anybody away,” he pleaded.

Ole Kina maintained his line of questioning, saying the individuals did not appear willing to fully participate in the interrogation.
“Even a class 2 student will read this letter and deduce that these people do not want to appear.”
He further argued that the correspondence raised questions about the Senate’s jurisdiction, suggesting the National Assembly should instead handle the matter.

“You cannot question the jurisdiction or the mandate of the Senate when I’m sitting here. You cannot.”
The exchange briefly shifted focus to one of the CEOs present, with a senator seeking clarification on fuel availability to avoid misleading media reports.
“CEO, I want you to clarify one thing because when we leave here, the media is going to write something that you say there is no shortage, there is enough here.”
The Senate committee continues to examine the fuel importation matter, including allegations of irregular emergency imports, quality concerns, and possible irregularities in the handling of fuel in the petroleum sector.
