CS Murkomen Makes MAJOR Regional Commanders, County Commissioners Shake Up

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a massive overhaul that will affect Regional Commissioners and County Commissioners, with the goal of boosting efficiency and service delivery across the country.

Murkomen stated on Friday, May 15, that the transfers and promotions were intended to improve coordination of national government tasks.

It will also address rising security and administrative issues in various locations.

Among the significant changes at the Regional Commissioner level, Rhoda Nyaboke Onyancha was transferred from the Coast region to Nairobi, and Paul Rotich was transferred from Eastern to the Coast area.

Samson Macharia Irungu was transferred from the Western region to the Office of the President headquarters, while Flora Nkatha Mworoah was moved from the Nyanza region and recalled to the headquarters.

“The ministry has effected the following changes in the ranks of regional commissioner and county commissioner to enhance service delivery and ensure effective coordination of national government functions across the country,” the statement issued by Murkomen read in part. 

“The transfers have taken into consideration the strengths and experiences of the officers as we address the various security and service delivery concerns.”

The ministry also announced new deployments in promotion capacity, with Jacob O. Muganda, Onesmus Musyoki Kyatha, and Allan Machari elevated to regional commissioner positions following their previous assignments as county commissioners.

As a result, Muganda has been appointed Eastern Regional Commissioner, Musyoki will head the Nyanza region, while Allan Machari has been deployed from the Office of the President headquarters to serve as Western Regional Commissioner.

In the changes that come 14 months to the 2027 General Elections, several regional commissioners were retained in their current stations.

These include Joshua Muriungi Nkanatha in the Central region, John Odhiambo Otieno in the North Eastern, and Dr Abdi Mohammed Hassan in the Rift Valley region.

County Commissioners

At the County Commissioner level, the changes also saw Joseph Kibet Boen transferred from Kiambu to Kilifi, while Stephen Kutwa Sangolo was moved from Baringo to Lamu County.

Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru was transferred from Kericho to Tana River, as John Kiprotich Cheruiyot moved from Samburu to Meru County in the latest reorganisation.

John Taari was moved from the North Eastern region to Kakamega, and James Gatutha from Marsabit to Kisii, while David Kiprop was transferred from Isiolo back to the headquarters.

Gideon Oyagi was also moved from Trans Nzoia to the headquarters, alongside David Simiyu, who was transferred from Kilifi back to the headquarters.

Other notable transfers included Shufaa Omar Mwijuma moving from Nyamira to Tana River, Benson David Leparmorijo being transferred from Kisumu to Nyamira, and Josephine Auma Ouko being moved from Machakos and recalled to the headquarters.

The ministry further deployed several deputy county commissioners into new county commissioner roles, including Jackson Ngelai Olechuta, George Odhiambo Omolo, Ronald Enyakasi, and Stanley Ndungu Kamande.

Murkomen said the changes take effect immediately as the government seeks to improve administration, security coordination, and delivery of public services across all regions of the country.
