Huduma Kenya Explains ID Issuance Delays, Provides Alternative
Huduma Kenya has attributed delays in providing identity cards to continuous technical issues with its system, despite public complaints over the lengthy wait for the vital document.
The clarification comes amid growing frustration among members of the public who claim their ID replacement requests have been languishing for longer periods, with some citing delays stretching back to 2023.
The agency admitted that it is currently experiencing technology issues that have hampered its capacity to offer real-time information on application status, resulting in delays in publishing the document.
“We are currently experiencing challenges with the system, thus unable to check on the status,” Huduma Kenya clarified.
The response comes after a frustrated Kenyan inquired as to why his ID replacement status was still shown as ‘in the system’ despite applying for a replacement years ago.
This has left many Kenyans unable to obtain their documents, even though they may have been released earlier.
While confirming the glitches in the system, Huduma Kenya advised those who applied for the documents to instead visit its centres to confirm whether the documents had been released.
“You can also visit the station of application in the meantime for an update,” the agency added.

The agency, however, did not provide a specific timeline for when normal service and full system functionality would be restored.
The clarification comes days after Huduma Kenya announced it had released identity cards, birth certificates, smart driving licenses, and other documents, urging Kenyans to collect them.
According to the agency, its centre currently has 29,138 birth certificates, 178,939 national IDs, and 100,131 smart driving licences that are yet to be collected.
It urged Kenyans to visit their designated Huduma Centres across the country to collect the documents, adding that they should carry the necessary collection slips when doing so.
