Sports Ministry Responds To Claims Of FKF Suspension

The government has responded to viral rumors that the Football Kenya Federation has been suspended, as internal squabbles within the football body escalate.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya was obliged to respond on Thursday, June 4, to a viral tweet claiming that the federation would be required to fund its own activities.

This encompasses the national team’s activities for both domestic and international assignments after the supposed suspension.

In a subsequent clarification, FKF president Hussein Mohammed denied the allegations, claiming there was a witch hunt against the FKF hierarchy.

“We’ve noticed a rise in false stories with a clear agenda that are circulating to damage the federation and its leadership,” the FKF boss said.

He added, “We know who is behind them. We will not be distracted from executing our mandate.

“Deliberately misleading the public is wrong and unacceptable; we will pursue all available remedies to protect our reputation.”

The FKF boss reaffirmed that his team will pursue all available remedies to safeguard the Federation’s credibility.

He added that the matter failed to meet the requirements outlined in Article 41 of the FKF constitution.

The world football governing body also cautioned FKF NEC officials against hastily taking action that affects the federation’s leadership and administration.

FIFA further warned that the FKF officials found to have breached the FKF Constitution, rules, and regulations could face disciplinary actions by the federation’s judicial body.

FKF’s woes stem from allegations of financial impropriety, including the alleged misappropriation of Ksh42 million earmarked for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The allegations led to a brief suspension of President Hussein Mohamed and two other senior officials pending investigations.
