“Students Chant ‘Wantam’!” – Mother To Son Named William Ruto Chided, Bullied By Classmates
A mother has expressed her dismay over her little son, William Ruto, who has been subjected to ongoing bullying and abuse.
The mother claims she named her son in 2022, shortly after William Ruto won the presidency, which is a common practice among parents to name their children after prominent leaders, events, or trendy conditions.
However, the mom now says she sincerely regrets the choice of name because it has become her son’s greatest source of sorrow and anguish.
This is after fellow students have turned his name into an object of contempt and mockery.
“Tukitoka parade, watoto wanamwita ‘Ruto Must Go’ na ‘Wantam’,” — a child named after President William Ruto has reportedly faced hostility from fellow students, with claims emerging that the pupil is being mocked and taunted over his name.

“Whenever my son comes home from school, he tells me that during break sessions, other kids chide and bully him by calling him ‘Ruto Must Go’, ‘Wantam’…,” the distressed mother narrated.
“I do not wish to continue studying there. Please, mum, change my name or my school.”

The woman went on to explain that her decision to name her son William Ruto has also plunged her and her son into insecurity, as the verbal attacks have intensified over the years.
“I need security for myself and my son. I’m surprised that it’s a crime to name your child Ruto. I cannot change the name because I love Ruto,” she stated.
The woman, who was unapologetic over her choice of name for her son, has now escalated the matter to the school authorities.
She seeks to have the matter addressed by school officials, parents and even her son’s schoolmates.
