MAJOR 24-Hour Water Outage Announced For 14 Nairobi Estates

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has declared a major water supply interruption that will leave 14 Nairobi estates dry for nearly 24 hours due to a pipeline leak.

According to a notification issued by the water agency on June 15, the shutdown will begin at 10 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, and last until midday on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

According to the business, the disruption was caused by an ongoing leak in the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete transmission pipeline near Gatundu.

“This is to inform you of a temporary water supply interruption that will affect several residential and commercial areas in the City,” stated Nairobi Water.

“The interruption is due to a leakage on NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete transmission pipeline at Gatundu.”

Westlands and its surrounds, Lavington, Kilimani, Upperhill, and parts of Ngong Road are among the regions that may feel the squeeze.

Other estates expected to experience the outage include Madaraka, Langata, Kibera, Karen, Uthiru and Kangemi.

Kawangware residents have also been listed among those who should brace for the temporary interruption.

The disruption will further extend to areas served by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company, widening the scope of the outage beyond Nairobi alone.

For many households and businesses, the timing means planning around the unavailability of water for cooking, cleaning and general use.

Commercial establishments within the affected zones may also need to make alternative arrangements to keep operations running smoothly.

The company has further assured residents that normal supply will resume once repair works on the affected pipeline are completed.

This is the second time Nairobi Water is announcing a water disruption encompassing a notable number of estates, with the last disruption affecting 15 estates within the city on March 15, largely attributed to floods.

At the time, the company indicated that several key pipelines affected by the floods include the Outering Road pipeline at the Nairobi River crossing, the Eastleigh–Kiambiu pipeline, the Korogocho–Dandora pipeline, and the Brookeside Drive distribution line.
