Kajiado Politician Under Investigation Over Alleged Blockade On Ruto’s Convoy

Police are investigating a politician from Kajiado North for reportedly funding a group of protesters to block President William Ruto’s motorcade in Kajiado on Sunday, June 14.

The police are investigating the security flaws that enabled the group to block Ruto’s convoy.

Police detained 45 people on the same day for allegedly causing the incident in Nkarusa, Kajiado West, over the weekend.

President Ruto went to Kajiado West on Sunday to host a fundraiser for the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church’s building at the Nkarusa Church headquarters.

According to preliminary investigations, the persons were transported to the region by bus and matatu prior to the President’s appearance at a public function.

Upon arrival, the group allegedly blocked the road, disrupting President Ruto’s convoy. This occurred as he was leaving after attending the fundraiser.

Authorities allege that the suspects were chanting “Wantam” slogans at the venue before police officers moved in to disperse the gathering.

The group was later arrested as they prepared to leave the area.

Investigators claim the politician mobilised and facilitated the group to attend the President’s event, where they were allegedly instructed to disrupt the proceedings by chanting “Wantam” slogans.

On Monday, the Ngong Law Court released the 45 individuals accused of obstructing President Ruto’s motorcade on bail.

The accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Ariba Kuwa, where five women admitted to the charges, while the remaining 40 male suspects denied any wrongdoing.

The case involving the five women who admitted to the charges will be mentioned again on June 18, 2026.

For the 40 male suspects who denied the allegations, the matter will be mentioned after 14 days to allow police to continue with ongoing investigations.

Each suspect was released on a bond of Ksh100,000 or an alternative cash bail of the same amount. 

When such incidents occur, the government has been blaming the opposition, while the opposition accuses the government of using goons to suppress opposition and interfere with opposition-led events.
