Cases of disappearances in Kenya have surged alarmingly, with authorities and human rights groups recording hundreds of unresolved missing persons cases spanning abductions and enforced disappearances linked to state operations, and thousands of missing children.
The situation is particularly dire for children, with police reports indicating an average of 23 go missing daily, over 44,000 unidentified children living in charitable facilities, and police tracking over 130 cases this year alone.
Data tabled before the Senate by the Ministry of Interior reveals that 206 individuals remain entirely unaccounted for out of 400 reported missing nationwide.
Groups such as the Missing Voices Coalition have continued to document enforced disappearances tied to police violence.
