Satellite Images Contradict Duale’s Claims On Ebola Facility Construction

Satellite data acquired above central Kenya on Tuesday indicates that building at the Laikipia Ebola quarantine facility may have resumed despite Health officials’ promises that all work at the military airbase in Nanyuki had been halted.

This comes just hours after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale told a Nairobi court that he had put an immediate halt to the US-backed project at the institution.

The apparent inconsistency has heightened scrutiny of the site, fueling a growing scandal that has sparked public concern, diplomatic sensitivities, and questions about compliance with court and government orders.

The latest satellite images show new white tents arranged in orderly rows, while metallic container-like structures, previously absent in earlier imagery from the mount, have also appeared near the edge of the compound.

According to reports, heavy trucks have continued entering the facility after dark, while cargo aircraft have been landing at unusual hours.

Workers have also been seen moving materials behind newly erected perimeter screens, even after a Kenyan court issued orders suspending the project.

The facility, according to U.S. and diplomatic sources, is intended to isolate and monitor Americans exposed to Ebola during the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where more than 1,000 infections have been recorded.

In Nanyuki, tensions flared days after news of the quarantine centre first surfaced online.

Demonstrators marched through the town carrying branches and placards warning against turning Kenya into what they described as a “holding ground for foreign disease outbreaks.”

Meanwhile, satellite observations appear to align with aviation tracking data reviewed by journalists and corroborated by diplomatic sources.

Those records indicate that flights carrying medical supplies and specialist personnel continued to arrive at the Nanyuki air base even after court suspension orders were issued.

A U.S. official had earlier confirmed that aircraft were still delivering equipment linked to the facility, while staff training continued on site.

However, neither the Kenyan nor the U.S. authorities had publicly clarified on Tuesday whether the ongoing logistical activity amounts to a violation of the court order.
