KISII: Governor Arati, MP Barongo’s Supporters Clash Leaving 10 Injured

Kisii police have initiated an investigation following the wild circumstances reported in Endereti village, Bomachoge Borabu.

This comes after at least ten people were injured when fighting broke out between two armed groups thought to be supporters of local Member of Parliament Obadiah Barongo and Governor Simba Arati.

The incident occurred just hours after another clash in Borabu Constituency during a separate public gathering.

Locals expressed concern about escalating political violence in a traditionally calm region.

Amateur videos have aroused uproar on social media, showing a group of adolescents engaging in a violent conflict at a funeral just after Governor Arati and his entourage arrived.

Governor Arati and MP Obadiah Barongo have each accused the other of orchestrating the attack.

The latest incident comes as leaders across the political divide condemn the growing wave of politically motivated violence in the Gusii region, accusing a section of leaders of fuelling the unrest.

A few weeks ago, Ichuni Member of County Assembly Wycliffe Siocha was also attacked within Kisii town by suspected goons, allegedly over his political stance.
