MACHAKOS: Senior Police Officer Killed In Horrific Car Crash

The officer in charge of Makutano Police Patrol Base in Mwala Sub-County, Inspector Felistus Kateve Mbaluka, has died after a horrific head-on collision along the Machakos-Kitui Road in Machakos County.

The accident occurred at about 11pm on Sunday, June 28, in the King’atwani area, involving a car she was driving and a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

According to a police report, the impact of the crash caused severe injuries to Inspector Mbaluka, including multiple fractures to both legs, both hands, and her neck.

A rescue operation was quickly mobilised, and she was rushed to Tumaini Private Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

Following her death at the private hospital, Mbaluka’s body was later moved to Montezuma Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.

However, despite the Inspector’s death, the driver of the lorry survived the crash, with the police confirming that the driver came out with minor injuries.

The police disclosed that investigations have been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision, including possible contributing factors.

While speaking to the media, the police revealed that the collision was among at least 10 deadly road accidents reported across the country on Sunday night.

Images of the accident shared online showed the police officer’s vehicle extensively damaged on the front, with the engine compartment completely crushed and the windscreen smashed.

The latest development adds to the number of road crashes witnessed over the past week.

Just three days ago, three people died while 10 others sustained injuries in a grisly accident along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.

The horrific crash occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 27, when a speeding trailer lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, ramming into a 14-seater matatu.

Rising accident cases in the country have sparked renewed calls for vigilance, with the public urging the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to act against rogue motorists.
