Matiang’i Responds To Viral Picture Meeting Junet, Simba Arati
Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i has denied that his meeting with Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Kisii Governor Simba Arati was a covert political engagement.
In a statement released on Saturday, July 3, Matiang’i, the Jubilee presidential candidate, emphasized that he simply ran into the duo at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and that the meeting was entirely unplanned.
“This morning, after checking in at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, I bumped into Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who had also checked in and were travelling to Kisumu,” he noted.
He also denied online rumors that the leaders had met the night before or that the airport encounter was planned.

“Contrary to false claims circulating online, this was neither a meeting held last night nor a planned engagement. It was simply a chance encounter between leaders at the airport,” Matiang’i added.
Matiang’i disclosed that after arriving in Kisumu, he travelled to Ahero, where he joined Siaya Governor James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and other faithful for a church service.

Matiang’i issued the clarification after a photograph of the three leaders together at JKIA went viral.

It triggered speculation that they were holding talks on possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In the photos, the three leaders are seen standing side by side inside the JKIA check-in area, posing for a photograph before holding a brief conversation.
The clarification came as online debate intensified, with one social media user questioning whether the leaders could have been discussing future political alliances.
“Politically speaking, if Fred Matiang’i, Junet Mohamed, and Simba Arati were discussing politics, who was trying to convince who?” posed an online user.
Another social media user claimed, without providing evidence, that Junet and Arati had allegedly used the airport meeting to persuade Matiang’i to join the government following recent political events in the Gusii region.
The speculation comes at a time when Matiang’i has emerged as a key opposition figure after being endorsed by the Jubilee Party as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
