ODM Breaks Silence On Eyeing Kindiki's Position As UDA Talks Continue

POLL: Ruto’s Preferred Running Mate As Kindiki, ODM Go Head To Head

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is the leading choice to deputize President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections, a recent Infotrak survey has revealed.

According to the poll released on Monday, July 13, Kindiki received 34 per cent to deputise Ruto in the coming election, placing him well ahead of other contenders.

Homabay County Governor Gladys Wanga was ranked second with 11 per cent, while ODM party leader Oburu Odinga came third with 5 per cent.

The survey, however, reveals that over 37 per cent were still unsure who to pick as Ruto’s running mate.

This raises concerns about whether they would support Kindiki or any other contender on the list.

“Public opinion is split: 37 per cent are unsure, while Kithure Kindiki emerges as the clear preferred running mate at 34 per cent, far ahead of Gladys Wanga at 11 per cent. All other named contenders remain in single digits,” Infotrak stated.

Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho scored 4 percent support, while Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru received 3 percent.

Other candidates recorded lower levels of support, with PCS  Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula each polling 2 percent.

Simba Arati garnered 1 percent, while other unnamed candidates collectively accounted for 0.4 percent.

The survey was conducted among 3,000 respondents and sought to establish public opinion on who would be the best running mate for President William Ruto in a broad-based government.

The poll also reveals that the leaders enjoy a significant majority of support to deputise Ruto from their regions.

For instance, Kindiki got 41 per cent backing from the Central Kenya region, while Wanga got 35 percent in Nyanza.

Joho recorded the strongest regional endorsement, attracting 60 per cent support.

The Western region presented a more competitive picture, with  Mudavadi leading at 28 per cent, followed closely by Wetang’ula at 22 per cent.

The survey comes amid calls from some leaders allied to the president urging him to drop Kindiki and pick a different running mate for the 2027 elections.

According to leaders from western Kenya, Ruto should pick National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula as his running mate if he indeed wants to win a majority of votes in the western region.

In Nyanza, Ruto is being pressured to instead settle on Gladys Wanga as his preferred number two.
