Ruto CS Faces Axe Over Party Affiliations Following Calls To Fold
Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has urged President William Ruto to remove Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua from office.
During a church service in Kitui, the legislator criticized the CS for not dissolving his party, Maendeleo Chap Chap, and joining President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
This decision, according to the MP, threatens the unity of the Ukambani region as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
โThe President wants to unite the whole country, and those who had smaller parties that threatened the strength of the UDA Party, President Ruto urged them to fold their parties and join the broader umbrella of UDA,โ stated Mbai.
Nimrod Mbai: “Maendeleo Chap Chap must exit the political scene within the next 10 days. If that does not happen, then CS Mutua should equally leave office whether by resigning or being relieved of his duties by the President. We are prepared to compete politically with Wiper. pic.twitter.com/quCD5ZhJXzโ ๐ ฐ๐ ต๐๐ ฐ๐ ฒ๐ ด๐ ฝ๐๐๐ ด๐ ฒ๐๐ ด๐๐ฐ๐ช (@AfyaCentreCrew) July 14, 2026
“As the people of Ukambani, we are facing a bigger challenge because CS Mutua does not want to respect the President’s wishes, and this could make it harder for us to counter our opponents in 2027,” Mbai said.
“For this reason, we are asking President Ruto to fire him and replace him with another leader from this region as a lesson.”
The member noted that it was sad that a Cabinet Secretary nominated by President Ruto defied ‘the President’s political direction at a time when his support was most needed’.
He termed the move “the highest level of disobedience.”
Mbai gave Mutua a 10-day ultimatum to dissolve the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, warning that failure to do so would amount to insubordination and justify his removal from the Cabinet.
He pointed to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, saying he had agreed to merge their ANC party with UDA in support of President Ruto’s plan to strengthen the ruling party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“If Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi and Speaker Wetang’ula obeyed the President for the greater vision of the party, why should a mere Cabinet Secretary fail to do so?” Mbai posed.

“We are giving him 10 days to dissolve the party. If he fails, he should resign, or the President should fire him and appoint another leader from this region to the docket,” he added.
Mbai said UDA leaders in the Ukambani region had unanimously resolved that Mutua should either dissolve his party or be replaced.
The 2027 ground is shifting in Kitui East and the MP Nimrod Mbai is visibly sweating. Terrified of a massive comeback by Wiperโs Kiema Kilonzo and panicking over Kalonzo Musyoka’s rising political tide, the stressed-out lawmaker has resorted to desperate, do-or-die outbursts justโฆ pic.twitter.com/NESqQ9a33nโ The Kenyan Vigilante (@KenyanSays) July 14, 2026
They argued that maintaining Maendeleo Chap Chap undermines the ruling party’s efforts to expand its support in the region.
He further argued that the continued existence of Maendeleo Chap Chap gives Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party the dominant political outfit in Ukambani.
This, he insisted, is a strategic advantage for Wiper to split support that could otherwise strengthen UDA.
Mbai also revived the debate over the fallout betweenย former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President Ruto, claiming that differences over political party unity were among the issues that contributed to their rift.
