UK Issues Travel Advisory For Its Citizens Visiting Kenya
The United Kingdom has issued a new travel alert for Britons travelling to Kenya, warning of security dangers in certain areas of the nation.
In its most recent advice, the UK urged British nationals to exercise caution while visiting Kenya, avoiding regions deemed high risk.
The advisory targeted specific regions around the Kenya-Somalia border, as well as portions of the northern and coastal regions.
According to the new alert, the British government has identified terrorism concerns, kidnapping risks, crime, and the prospect of disturbances caused by political rallies as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned that terrorist groups linked to Somalia-based Al-Shabaab continue to pose a threat.
FCDO added that attacks could occur in places frequented by foreigners, including hotels, restaurants, shopping centres, beaches, places of worship, and government facilities.
Specifically, the advisory maintains its warning against all travel to parts of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties due to the threat of terrorism and kidnapping.
It also advises against all but essential travel to several other areas considered high risk.
“Due to the risk of terrorism from groups based in Somalia, FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties,” the advisory read in part.
The FCDO also urged travellers to remain vigilant, follow local security advice and avoid large political gatherings.

They warned that demonstrations and protests in Kenya can sometimes turn violent and cause significant disruption.
In addition, the advisory highlights the risk of violent crime, including robbery, carjacking and theft, particularly in major urban centres such as Nairobi.
British nationals are advised to avoid isolated areas, keep valuables secure and travel during daylight where possible.
The latest advisory comes days after Canada also updated its travel guidance for Kenya, warning its citizens against travelling to the North Eastern region.
In its notice, the Canadian government advised against all travel to parts of Lamu, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit and Turkana counties.
It also urged its citizens to exercise a high degree of caution when visiting Nairobi’s Eastleigh and Kibera areas due to security concerns.
