“You Must Apologize!” – CS Wahome Tells Duale In A Fiery Statement

Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has broken her silence over Health counterpart Aden Duale’s controversial ethnic remarks.

Wahome called on her Cabinet colleague to withdraw the comments and issue an immediate apology.

In a statement shared on her social media platforms on Sunday, July 26, Wahome said the fact that other leaders may have made offensive remarks in the past did not justify Duale’s comments, urging him to reconsider his position.

According to the CS, Duale’s refusal to apologise was troubling, and she urged him to reconsider his position and take responsibility for his remarks.

“Hon. Aden Duale, CS, your recent remarks against the Kikuyu community have brought out the worst in you,” Wahome stated.

“You have been called to apologise, but you said no because, according to you, other people have made worse mistakes.”

“Two wrongs don’t make a right, and only a fool does not change his /her mind. You should withdraw your remarks and apologise profusely,” she demanded.

The intervention came a day after Duale maintained that he would not apologise over the remarks that triggered criticism from political leaders and prompted an investigation by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

Speaking in Garissa on Sunday, Duale demanded that NCIC summon former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what he described as repeated tribal remarks.

The CS insisted that he will only honour the commission’s summons if Gachagua is also investigated.

He accused the commission of applying double standards by pursuing government officials while overlooking similar or more serious remarks made by opposition leaders.

“The day I will go to NCIC, I must go with Gachagua. I will come with my lawyers and he with his,” Duale said.

“If there is anyone with the number one Kenyan hate speech, it is Gachagua, and I am not sorry about it.”

Duale has come under increasing pressure in recent days over ethnic remarks targeting the Kikuyu community, which the NCIC is investigating as alleged hate speech ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Following the remarks, several leaders, particularly from the opposition, have called on President William Ruto to dismiss the Health CS if he refuses to apologise or step down.

Duale, however, has rejected the criticism, insisting his remarks were taken out of context and maintaining that he will not apologise.
