Death Toll From Eldoret-Nakuru Highway Accident Rises To 12
The death toll from the accident along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway has risen to 11 after four of those who had been injured died in hospital.
Three students were among the seven people who died on the spot in the Thursday night accident involving a trailer and two matatus along the busy Eldoret-Nakuru highway.
The trailer, which was heading towards Eldoret, collided with a 15-seater matatu travelling to Nakuru. The impact also affected another matatu that was nearby.
Police said the trailer was overtaking other vehicles when the crash occurred.
The accident occurred at an area known as Mulima Punda, near the Lessos junction, a few kilometres from Burnt Forest.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani said investigations into the cause of the accident were underway. Eight other people were injured in the crash.
He said the dead included the driver of the matatu and six passengers. All the bodies of the deceased were taken to Plateau Hospital Mortuary.

“Most of the injured were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where we are following up on their condition,” said Sicharani.
Sicharani said some of the deceased had already been identified by their relatives at the mortuary.
He said some of the injured were admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, while others were taken to Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital.
All those who died were travelling in one of the matatus that was heading from western Kenya to Nairobi.
Those who were in the lorry and the other matatu sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged from hospital.
“We continue to urge all drivers to exercise caution on the roads so that we can save the lives we are losing,” said Sicharani.
