MP Kuria Kimani Breaks Silence On Claims Of Abandoning 900 Students At KICC
Claims that more than 900 learners from Molo Constituency were stranded outside the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) overnight on Tuesday, August 4, have been dismissed by area MP Kuria Kimani.
In a clarification issued on Wednesday, August 5, the legislator confirmed that the learners and more than 100 teachers spent the night at KICC after consultations involving parents.
He explained that the arrangement was made to comply with rules stipulated by the Ministry of Education.
“As the group arrived late and the priority was to ensure the safety of the learners while complying with the Ministry of Education’s travel guidelines, Hon. Kuria Kimani ensured that all the students and teachers were provided with supper and accommodated at KICC for the night,” the statement read.
The group, composed of students and teachers from a number of schools, had reportedly completed an educational trip to Nairobi when it became too late to begin the journey back to Molo.
As school vehicles are prohibited from operating after 6pm, organisers arranged overnight accommodation instead of travelling at night.
Kimani’s response follows viral social media posts alleging that the learners had been abandoned outside KICC after the MP allegedly failed to facilitate the trip as promised.

A circulating video shared online showed a bus parked near KICC, with students and teachers appearing to wait outside in the dark.
According to the statement, KICC management and officers from KICC Police Station were engaged to support the overnight stay and help ensure the educational visit concluded safely.
It further stated that Kimani remained with the group until all school buses had departed for Molo at around 6am the following morning.
The MP said the trip was fully facilitated, with transport, meals and teachers’ allowances catered for throughout the visit.
During the tour, the learners visited Parliament, the National Museum of Kenya and the Nairobi Railway Museum as part of the educational programme.
The students also attended sessions facilitated by parliamentary officials during their trip in Nairobi.
