[VIDEO] Mike Sonko’s House Catches Fire, Emergency Team Averts More Disaster

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s residence reportedly caught fire on Saturday morning, prompting a swift response from Nairobi City County emergency teams.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire broke out around dawn, with footage widely shared online showing flames and thick smoke rising from part of the building.

Sparks could also be seen around the affected outer section of the building, suggesting a possible electrical fault, but the exact cause of the fire had not been immediately established.

County firefighters, led by Customer Service Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, responded to the scene and contained the blaze before it could spread and cause further damage.

Moments later, Sonko took to social media to thank the Nairobi County disaster management team for its quick response and reassured the public that he was safe.

The devil is a liar! Just look at how much God loves us. Imagine, He woke us up!” Sonko wrote on his social media page.

He also thanked the county team for its intervention, saying, “Mosiria, thank you so much and to your entire team from Nairobi County. May God bless you abundantly.”

Footage shared by Sonko on his Facebook page showed several individuals battling the flames at the residence as the fire illuminated the walls and the roof in the darkness.

According to the former county boss, he and other occupants were awake when the incident occurred, allowing them to alert the county emergency team, which arrived on time.

The extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured were not immediately established, while the exact cause of the fire is expected to be determined after an assessment by relevant authorities.

The incident comes as county emergency teams continue to respond to fire emergencies across Nairobi, with firefighters working to contain incidents and prevent further property damage.

Just hours before the latest incident, another fire broke out at Ali Glacier, one of the largest hardware stores along 3rd Street in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

The blaze sent thick smoke into the sky as emergency teams responded to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Witnesses also reported hearing explosion-like sounds coming from inside the building, although the source of the sounds had not been established.
