“Stop Using Sifuna Rally To Endorse Kalonzo!” – MP Amisi Warns Leaders At Linda Mwananchi

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has chastised leaders for using a Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay to endorse other political figures.

Amisi asserted that the movement was not founded to support the presidential ambitions of anybody other than Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Amisi claimed he was “extremely perplexed” by the decision to endorse other leaders during a gathering in front of Sifuna, claiming that it contradicted the movement’s basic idea.

“I am extremely perplexed by leaders using the Sifuna rally in Homa Bay to endorse other leaders not part of the movement in front of Sifuna. This is not the idea why I started the movement,” Amisi said.

He notably rejected Linda Mwananchi’s endorsement of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The congressman also stated that he objected to leveraging the movement’s platform to promote another presidential contender.

“LM was not started to endorse Kalonzo. Kalonzo can, however, support Sifuna for presidency. This I will fight for till the end,” he said.

Amisi said Linda Mwananchi was built around an idea of generational political change rather than an individual, with Sifuna positioned as the person carrying that agenda.

“Sisi ni Sifuna was an idea not even about Sifuna as a person; and Edwin Watenya Sifuna is the flagbearer of the idea. Period! Nobody else can fit in that idea unless you start another movement,” he said.

In a post on X, Amisi accused leaders he did not name of engaging in political manoeuvring at the expense of the movement’s original objective.

“Let’s stop the political conmanship around our generational fight for change. You did not understand the assignment. Bure kabisa!”

The Saboti MP has previously argued that Linda Mwananchi should retain its independence and that Sifuna should be the opposition’s presidential candidate.

In May, he said the movement was formed to give young Kenyans hope and was not intended to promote Kalonzo, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua or any other opposition candidate.

His latest remarks come amid continuing disagreements over the direction of Linda Mwananchi and the alliances it should pursue ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Amisi has previously criticised efforts to link the movement with the United Opposition, arguing that doing so would undermine its original agenda.

In a previous interview in June, Amisi took credit for starting Linda Mwananchi, describing it as “his baby” and accusing some seasoned politicians he did not name of attempting to hijack it.

“The only problem is, these old guys have invaded Linda Mwananchi, and they are trying to divert the course,” he said.

“The course was that there is a generation that is fed up with legacy politicians.”

“You cannot be replacing one legacy politician with another one and calling it change,” he said on June 14.

Amisi has repeatedly said the Linda Mwananchi movement should resist efforts to be absorbed into the United Opposition coalition.
