Nation Media Appoints Kipng’etich, Julie Gichuru As Directors As New Management Takes Over
Nation Media Group has appointed six new directors to its board, including veteran journalist and media personality Julie Gichuru, in a major shake-up.
His follows the acquisition of the company’s majority stake by Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz.
The appointments come after Taarifa Ltd, a company owned by Aziz, completed the purchase of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s 54.08 per cent stake in NMG.
Gichuru, the Chief Executive of the Africa Leadership and Dialogue Institute, joins the board alongside Jubilee Insurance Group CEO Julius Kipng’etich and former National Bank of Kenya Managing Director Wilfred Musau.
Also appointed are technology executive Juliana Rotich, former Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar, and Georgia Mutagahywa, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Taifa Group of Companies, Aziz.
NMG Chairman Joe Muganda said the new directors bring experience that will help the company navigate changes in the media industry.
“They bring a strong combination of experience across media, communications, technology, digital transformation, financial services, corporate leadership, governance, marketing and stakeholder engagement,” Muganda said.
The changes also mark the departure of four directors, including Sultan Allana, Fayyaz Nurmohamed, Al-noor Ramji and Prof Nancy Booker.

Muganda thanked the departing directors for their contribution while welcoming the new members to the board.
“I thank our departing directors for their service and contribution to Nation Media Group and warmly welcome our new directors,” he said.
The board changes come as NMG seeks to strengthen its digital business and increase revenue from paid digital content amid continued pressure on its traditional print operations.
NMG reported a 4.8 per cent decline in revenue to Ksh2.85 billion for the six months to June 2026, its lowest first-half turnover in 21 years.
Its net loss widened to Ksh357.2 million from Ksh41.7 million a year earlier.
The group said higher provisions for uncollected debts, including delayed government payments, increased fuel costs, lower interest income and continued weakness in print weighed on its performance.
