EACC Put 11 Counties On Notice Over Ksh.6 Billion Loss To Graft
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating eleven county governments for a loss of Ksh.6.3 billion. These include Kajiado, West Pokot, Migori, and Nairobi.
This was revealed on Tuesday, January 28, at the commission’s annual status report unveiling for fiscal year 2023/2024.
According to the report, the EACC is now examining 534 active cases involving graft, economic crimes, bribery, and unethical conduct.
Kajiado County is on the EACC’s radar due to allegations of irregular awarding of concessions totaling Ksh.2.2 billion to several entities affiliated with county authorities between FY 2013/2014 and 2022/2023.

Four officials from West Pokot County are under investigation for issuing Ksh.1.04 billion tenders to proxy businesses between 2013 and January 2024.
In Vihiga County, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) and his spouse (a county government employee) are suspected of embezzling public monies totaling Ksh.200 million between FY 2020/21 and 2023/24.
For Migori County, EACC is looking into claims of procurement irregularities totaling Ksh.140 million for drilling and equipping solar-powered boreholes in several wards.

Nairobi County is also on the commission’s radar for irregularly paying Ksh.93 million to 13 companies for goods and services not provided during the fiscal years 2021/22 and 2022/23.
According to the report, the EACC secured 1,546 warrants to inspect and search the banks, mobile money accounts, properties, watercraft, and cars of persons suspected of wrongdoing.
Furthermore, the EACC completed 126 investigative files on graft and handed them to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review.
At the same time, the commission’s investigation of 11 cases over the period saved a potential loss of Ksh.2.9 billion in public funds.
