There was trouble in Uasin Gishu County when goons attempted to interrupt a function in front of dignitaries, including governors.

On Sunday, February 2, Moi’s Bridge Township hosted a benefit for victims of a tragic fire that destroyed property worth millions of dollars on Saturday, January 1.

Moi’s Bridge is a well-known cosmopolitan town located many kilometers from Eldoret on the road to Kitale, Trans Nzoia County’s capital.

The village is close to the intersection of the Eldoret-Kitale Highway and the famed River Nzoia.

Several luminaries, including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok, attended the event, which began successfully.

However, everything changed when Soy MP David Kiplagat arrived.

A brawl ensued as Kiplagat was introduced, according to videos posted online, as goons attacked the platform in an attempt to disrupt the event.

The situation worsened further as tens of citizens seized the stage where political leaders were speaking, threatening to turn violent.

Police officers present at the gathering were compelled to intervene, but were temporarily overwhelmed by the sheer number of residents engaged in physical altercations at the arena.

While the exact cause of the chaos is unknown, numerous UDA officials at the gathering insisted that the goons who attempted to disrupt proceedings were paid for by an area leader.

Sudi was particularly impassioned during his speech on Sunday when he warned an unnamed element against utilizing youth to pursue divisive politics.

“I’m shocked. Instead of giving money to help the youth start businesses, we’re giving them money to fight and disrupt events. Let’s stop this politics of the old,” he said.

The outspoken Kapseret MP also hinted at rifts among UDA officials in Uasin Gishu by stating that he would assist individuals beyond his area.

“We agreed as leaders of Uasin Gishu County that we would help all residents when there is the need,” Sudi reiterated.
