KISII: Health Ministry Confirms Cause of Mysterious Disease

The government claims that the strange ailment that has appeared in Kisii County, notably in the South Mugirango Constituency, is the result of water contamination.

Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, revealed that the strange sickness discovered last month was caused by the poisoning of a community well.

On Tuesday, March 4, the PS reported that the well was contaminated with faeces.

In response to the outbreak, the Ministry of Health sent a team of medical professionals to the affected districts to investigate the situation and assist local health officials.

On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) joined the quest for the cause of the ailment.

Health authorities went to the wells in the affected areas and collected water samples for testing.

PS Muthoni acknowledged that samples had been gathered for analysis and delivered to the government chemist.

The unexplained ailment has impacted more than 200 people in areas like Nyabigege, Nyamarondo, and Nyarigiro.

Affected people are experiencing a variety of symptoms, including a high temperature, persistent diarrhea (occasionally with bloody stools), and severe headache.

Other symptoms include joint pain, nausea, and a loss of appetite.
