Campbell Scott’s Murder Suspect Kills Self As DCI Reveals Chilling Details

A suspect on the run for the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott committed suicide on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Samuel Musembi was wanted for the murder of a Briton.

Musembi is accused of driving the truck that transported the body of 58-year-old Scott from Pipeline Nairobi to Makongo Forest in Makueni County.

He had apparently been hiding at a relative’s home in Dandora, Nairobi.

According to detectives, Musembi sought temporary housing at a friend’s house in Dandora, where he allegedly stated that he wished to rest far away from his residence for unclear reasons.

The acquaintance told the family that he left the residence on Tuesday morning for work, leaving Musembi at home to relax.

He informed the family. Musembi appeared restless.

However, when the friend returned in the evening, he discovered the door was locked from the inside, forcing him to break it to gain admission.

He discovered Musembi lying on the bed, foaming from his lips and nose, with blood flowing from his neck.

He suffered a stab wound. After contacting Musembi’s family and neighbours, the friend hurried him to Mama Lucy Hospital, where he was turned away due to the gravity of the situation.

He was brought to Kenyatta National Hospital on Tuesday night and died on Wednesday morning while being treated in the casualty department.

“The heat on him was too much. He died by suicide,” an officer aware of the probe claimed.

Mohamed Amin, Director of Criminal Investigations, confirmed Musembi’s death, which appeared to be suicide.

“Autopsy will reveal more on the cause of death,” Amin said.

According to preliminary investigations, Musembi is accused of taking a deadly chemical prior to attempting suicide.

When it didn’t work, he stabbed himself in the neck and other areas of his body.

The family and hospital then contacted police about the situation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was finishing measures to collect Musembi’s DNA and fingerprints as the search for the man who had harbored him intensified. The host has yet to be found.

On March 7, the DCI called on the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of Musembi and two other suspects, Benard Mbunga Mbusu and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa alias Edu.

“The suspects are linked to the brutal murder of 58-year-old Briton, Campbell Scott, whose partially decomposed body was found on February 22, 2025, in Makongo Forest, Makueni Sub-County,” the DCI claimed.

“Scott had arrived in the country just days earlier to attend a business conference.”

The suspects allegedly duped the British national, who was in Nairobi, into attending a business meeting before disappearing on February 17 and being murdered.

They allegedly tied his body and put it into a car before driving more than 100 kilometers away and dumping it in a thicket in Makueni.

Detectives have two other individuals in custody who are assisting with the investigation.

Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki were in court on Monday last week.

The court was told that preliminary investigations indicate Scott was brought to Mutua’s home in Pipeline, Nairobi, where he is thought to have been murdered.

The prosecution claims that the two suspects successfully attempted to access money using Scott’s credit cards in Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa.

They were apprehended on March 1 along Nairobi-Mombasa Road, and it was discovered that the first suspect had already taken his possessions out of his Pipeline home.

Mbusu, who has yet to be apprehended, is believed to be the man captured on CCTV with Scott on February 16 before disappearing.

Detectives alleged he has a criminal history extending back to 2018.
