OFFICIAL: Mudavadi’s ANC Dissolves As Ruto-Raila Pact Threatens UDA Merger
The Amani National Congress (ANC), led by Musalia Mudavadi, no longer exists as a political party in Kenya, according to Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.
In an official notification, Nderitu stated that the party decided to voluntarily disband following a special national delegated Congress on Friday, February 7, 2025.
According to Nderitu, the party will cease to exist on March 7, 2025.
“Pursuant to sections 9 and 34C of the Political Parties Act, Cap 7D, and paragraph 22 of the second schedule to the Political Parties Act, it is notified for the information of the general public that Amani National Congress at its special national delegated Congress of Friday, February 7, 2025, resolved to voluntarily dissolve in line with the ANC party constitution,” the notice read in part.
The breakup comes when the ANC decided to fold and unite with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on January 17, 2025.

The UDA and ANC joined to become the United Democratic Alliance Party, with the goal of continuing Ruto’s party’s expansion into the Western region.
UDA Chairperson Cecil Mbarire declared that the ruling party would rebrand following the merger.
She stated that adjustments would be made to the party logo and colours, as well as other UDA brand identities.
Following the dissolution, the ANC’s leaders will appoint members of its secretariat, including directors and personnel who will support the new formation’s orientation.
The ruling party, UDA, is undergoing several changes; just a week ago, it struck a collaboration deal with Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
In an effort to foster unity, both Ruto and Raila stated that it was critical to set aside their disagreements and work together to propel Kenya forward.

While the pact attempts to promote national unity and address serious socioeconomic difficulties, some UDA members are concerned about the partnership’s repercussions.
While the dominant party gains new members, it also suffers losses when certain parties leave it.
On Wednesday, the Democratic Party of Kenya (DP), which is associated with CS Justin Muturi, announced its exit from President William Ruto’s coalition.
“Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” the party said in the letter to the coalition secretariat and the Registrar of Political Parties.
