REVEALED: How Househelp Stole, Disappeared With Ksh2.2 Million From Employer’s Nairobi House

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed intricate details about how a housekeeper stole Ksh2.2 million from her employer’s house before being apprehended.

On the evening of Sunday, March 30, the DCI released a statement revealing that they had apprehended the housekeeper and retrieved the money, two weeks after she inexplicably disappeared.

According to the investigating agency, the crime occurred on March 16, with the domestic worker aiming to carry out her heist after her boss had left the house.

After the boss left the residence to perform errands, the housekeeper carried out her plan by entering the master bedroom and grabbing Ksh2.2 million in cash.

She walked out of the house with the cash in a tote bag.

It needed the intervention of a security guard, who instantly notified the employer that her employee had left the house with a suspicious bag in her hands.

“Rushing back home, panic turned into horror when she discovered that Ksh2.2 million she had kept safely in her bedroom had vanished, just like her house-help,” DCI revealed.

Detectives from DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters and their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts responded to the theft and eventually captured the housekeeper in Malava, Kakamega County.

Interestingly, she was apprehended; the culprit had split the money in different locations.

She originally directed detectives to her grandmother’s home in Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Ksh700,000 was discovered.

Before heading to Nairobi, detectives stopped at the suspect’s rural residence in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where they discovered many chain links.

Detectives believe the chain links were purchased with stolen money. The DCI did not say where the balance of the money was.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been held at Capitol Hill Police Station and is awaiting a court appearance.
