Residents of the Kakdhimu village in Rachuonyo West Sub-county, Homa Bay County, were shocked when a police officer killed three children, including two of his own, before turning on himself.

The officer, who was stationed in Marsabit County, is thought to have committed the horrible act in his rural home while on leave.

Authorities have since determined that two of the children that perished at the officer’s hands were his own, while the other belonged to his brother-in-law.

Residents of Kawarwai, which is located in Kakdhimu East Location, Kawiti Sublocation, were stunned by the tragedy, with footage shared online depicting the villagers’ horror and amazement.

Authorities’ investigations into the murder and following deadly self-harm revealed a note thought to have been left behind by the cop.

In the suicide note, the officer specifies how he wants to be buried and how he wants his belongings distributed.

Furthermore, the suicide note appeared to indicate that the officer’s close relatives were unaware of his status as a police officer and assumed he worked as a construction worker.

“My employer had to prove to the villagers that I was working in the service and not at a ‘mjengo or as a fisherman the way they knew,” the note read in part.

It is worth mentioning that the memo is being handled with skepticism, as officials have yet to determine whether it was written by the officer, especially given that it was typed rather than handwritten.
