Matiangi Meets Maa Leaders In Narok For Strategic Engagements

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i met with Maasai leaders from Narok County on Friday to discuss strategy.

This is part of his ongoing grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Moitalel Ole Kenta, a famous Maa politician, convened the gathering, which brought together local elders and regional officials.

Matiang’i was accompanied by Kisii and Nyamira senators Richard Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni, Kisii elder and former senator Professor Sam Ongeri, and other leaders.

“We had fruitful consultations with our brothers from the Maa nation from Narok county,” he said.

Senator Onyonka stated that the engagement was one of many community-based engagements scheduled as Matiang’i works to gather public feedback and cement support across the country.

This comes only days after President William Ruto completed a tour of the region, emphasizing the political importance of the vote-rich area.

During a homecoming rally at Gusii Stadium on May 2, 2025, Matiang’i publicly declared his presidential ambition.

He later joined opposition leaders in a large political event held at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s residence in Wamunyoro, Nyeri county, to start a new political movement.

They included former Vice President and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and PLP member Martha Karua.

“I pledge to streamline and clean up this country, and restore the faith of people in government so they can trust it again,” he said.

“A government should not be playing with its people like is happening currently.”

Matiang’i positioned himself as a dedicated, reform-minded leader, citing his previous successes as Education CS under President Uhuru Kenyatta, particularly his efforts to prevent national exam cheating.

Reports indicate that he is planning an extensive tour of the Maa-speaking counties in the coming days as he seeks to build momentum for his 2027 campaign.
