Two men suspected of armed robbery were apprehended hours after CCTV footage of their daring daylight attack was made public.

The two were part of a trio involved in a terrifying robbery event in Timau, Meru County, with video evidence showing the armed guys in green robbing a shop attendant.

A police reservist initially alerted authorities after observing a man armed with an AK-47 rifle committing the crime.

The reservist confronted the suspect, who dropped the firearm and escaped on foot.

Police personnel from Kathare, Subuiga, and Buuri East police stations were immediately alerted to the incident and began searching for the suspects.

On March 27, the police squad engaged the criminals in a shootout in their hideout in Mbugoni, Mombasa County, and recovered an AK47 rifle and 32 rounds of ammunition.

The search eventually led to the discovery of a vehicle thought to have been utilized by the suspects during the crime.

Interestingly, police discovered a female suspect inside the vehicle, but her male colleagues chose to leave on foot.

The second suspect was discovered hiding in a nearby residential house.

“A female suspect was cornered as she attempted to make her escape from the car. Also captured was her accomplice, who was netted while trying to hide in a nearby house,” a statement from DCI read.

The DCI also verified that the suspects, dressed in jungle military uniforms and armed with AK-47 rifles, were responsible for the gunfight that occurred on Wednesday evening, June 4.

“The criminals stormed into an M-Pesa shop and ordered the attendant to open the door. On hesitation, they fired at her but she dodged their shot and sneaked into a nearby room,” the statement from DCI added.
