Court Charges Former County Official For Torching Mutuse’s Hotel

In response to allegations that he orchestrated the arson attack on Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse’s hotel, the Director of Criminal Investigations has summoned former Machakos County Executive Committee member Urbanus Wambua.

Mwengi Mutuse, the man behind former DP Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion, assessed his losses after his hotel was set on fire during a recent demonstration.

During the statewide demonstrations on June 25, multiple properties, including the hotel in Wote town, were vandalized and set on fire.

According to previous police accounts, the establishment was targeted by a crowd, but new allegations suggest that the attack was motivated by politics.

According to his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, Wambua will face questioning at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road.

“Today, I and Sen. Dan Maanzo shall be appearing before the DCI Kiambu Road, representing former Urbanus Wambua, who is being accused of burning down Mr. Mwengi Mutuse’s hotel at Wote,” Njiru wrote on his X page.

The interrogation follows the DCI’s investigations, which are searching for proof that the fires may have been more than just random protest violence.

During the June 25 anniversary protest, business owners across the country reported losses when some of their enterprises were plundered and others were set on fire.

Armed hooligans entered peaceful protests in Nairobi, Eldoret, and other locations.
