Defence Ministry Deploys KDF In Nakuru To Oversee 3 Mega Construction
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers will be stationed in Nakuru County to oversee the completion of various stalled infrastructure projects.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 16, the ministry stated that the troops will oversee the construction of the Afraha Stadium, Olenguruone Stadium, and the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital in partnership with the Nakuru County Government.
The decision came after Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya met with Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and other county authorities on Tuesday, July 15.
The government did not, however, reveal the specific date when the soldiers will be sent.
“The Cabinet Secretary and the Governor discussed priority Government infrastructure projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nakuru County,” KDF stated.
“The Government has prioritised the completion of Afraha Stadium, construction of Olenguruone Stadium and finalisation of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has been pending since 2012,” it added.
According to Kihika, the projects would be critical to increasing the county’s infrastructural capacity and boosting service delivery.

The announcement comes two days after the ministry stated that additional soldiers will be deployed to Kakamega, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu counties to oversee major infrastructure projects.
According to Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru, the initiatives are being carried out under President William Ruto’s direction to elevate important sectors in the country.

In Kakamega, the KDF, which will be deployed this week, will oversee the construction of the Kakamega Level 6 Hospital, which is expected to be completed in the next six months and will provide tertiary care in the county.
In Nandi County, the KDF will oversee the construction of the 10,000-seat Kipchoge Sports Stadium on the Kapsabet Show Ground.
They will then supervise the construction of the 15,000-seat Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county, in advance of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“The Principal Secretary for Defence, Patrick Mariru, recently conducted a day-long inspection tour of key Government priority infrastructure projects in Kakamega, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu Counties,” KDF stated.
