BUNGOMA: Ford Kenya Lawmaker Is Dead, Wetang’ula Confirms

James Mukhongo Barasa, a member of the County Assembly representing Chwele Kabuchai Ward, has died.

Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, described Mukhongo as determined and valiant in his fight against cancer.

Wetang’ula praised Mukhongo, saying he was more than just a leader; he was a brother, a son of the soil, and a friend to many.

The Speaker stated that he knew him before the titles and political accolades, when he was a young man full of dreams, modesty, and a deep love for his people.

“I watched him rise, from being nominated as a councillor in 2002, to being elected MCA in 2013, and never once did he waver in his service,” he said.

“He remained grounded, true to his values, and unwavering in his purpose.”

Mukhongo chaired the Finance Committee in the Bungoma County Assembly.

In addition, he served as the Ford Kenya Party chairman in Kabuchai, where he led with integrity, commitment, and a servant heart.

Wetang’ula stated that his voice spoke for the voiceless, his efforts lifted the weak, and his presence offered hope to many homes.

“His passing is a deep wound not just to his family and the people of Kabuchai but to all of us who were touched by his spirit, his kindness, and his unrelenting passion for community empowerment,” the Speaker said.
