Raila Fiercely Defends Ruto Alliance, Tells Critics To wait Till 2027

Raila Odinga, the head of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has criticized anyone who criticizes the broad-based government.

Raila has remarked that they should let President William Ruto’s administration work and reserve their opinions till the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Friday at Dr. Phoebe Asiyo’s burial in Wikondiek, Homa Bay County, the former Prime Minister ridiculed the opposition’s rising ‘one-term’ (‘wantam’) cries against President Ruto.

He stated that the broad-based government will share its track record with the public at the proper time, and Kenyans will have a say.

“To the naysayers, give us space and judge us in 2027. This is going to last till 2027, after that we’ll see where we’ll go,” he said.

“If you’re saying one term, one term…so what? It’s Kenyans who will decide the term,” Odinga added.

He was certain that political noise would not derail the administration’s agenda.

Furthermore, the ODM leader praised the broad-based regime’s efforts to implement the ten-point plan outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will eventually transform the nation.

This includes establishing a five-member committee to supervise the execution of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report and arranging a joint Kenya Kwanza-ODM Parliamentary Group meeting for August 18, 2025.

The NADCO committee consists of social commentator and newspaper writer Gabriel Oguda, former Nominated Senator Agnes Zani, Kevin Kiarie, Fatuma Ibrahim, and political communication strategist Javas Bigambo.

Its mandate would also include enhancing devolution, fostering young development, ensuring leadership integrity, advancing national inclusion, and protecting the right to peaceful assembly.

In addition, the committee will address the national debt, combat corruption, prevent the misuse of public resources, and promote people’s sovereignty alongside the rule of law.

“We have a structure to ensure the MoU is implemented fully and that’s why next week we shall have a joint Parliamentary Group meeting to ensure that our MPs put up structures so that we implement what we agreed on,” noted the former premier.

The broad-based regime enabled Odinga and President Ruto to reach an agreement to collaborate in order to better serve the nation.

As part of this inclusive strategy, ODM party members were absorbed into Ruto’s government, ushering in a new age of political cooperation.

However, the move drew criticism from a variety of sources, with opponents claiming that it could threaten ODM’s political strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
