Two border patrol officers from the Administration Police (AP) were killed when their vehicle was blown up by an Improvised Explosive Device in Kulan, near Daadab.

According to preliminary reports, the IED detonated when the patrol vehicle carrying the cops ran over the bomb.

At least five other officers on board the truck sustained critical injuries.

Although unconfirmed, local authorities believe the IED was purposefully planted on the patrol trail by the Al-Shabaab militants.

At the time this article was published, no militant group claimed responsibility for the incident.

In recent months, the Dadaab area in Garissa County has been targeted by attackers, who prefer to employ IEDs to ambush Kenyan police forces.

One of the more recent events took place in May 2025, when three police officers survived a similar attack at 6 a.m.

At the time, the police car, a Land Cruiser, sustained considerable frontal damage, with the policemen surviving primarily because the device detonated early.
