Tension erupted in Kanyuambora as furious people rushed toward Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, screaming him down and forcing him to flee the Kanyuambora Polling Station.

The audience, obviously upset and accusing him of intending to disrupt the voting process, blocked the entrance, producing a human wall that halted all movement.

During the ruckus, neighbors assaulted the school grounds gates, saying that no government or private vehicle would be let in or out.

Some people were heard swearing to “guard the votes until the last minute,” stating that they would not accept any suspicious activities near the ballot boxes.

As the situation worsened, the polling place became chaotic, with yelling and shouting and dozens of citizens loitering around the entrance, refusing to give up.

This follows chaos in Mbeere North, where former Attorney General Justin Muturi got into a near-fistfight with a homeowner moments after voting in the ongoing by-election.

The altercation near Siakago Social Hall follows a tense moment in which Muturi knocked out an agent for United Democratic Alliance candidate Leonard Muthende.

According to Muturi, the agent was evicted for wearing yellow attire, one of the UDA party’s official colours.

He said that wearing party colors in the polling booth area violates election laws.

Speaking to local media after the confrontation, Muturi said that the individual involved was Chinga Ward MCA Kiruga Thuku. He insisted that the law is clear on what agents and observers should wear during elections.

“It is disappointing and telling that those who should be defending the law are the same ones breaking it,” he stated.

“An MCA from Nyeri, Karuga, travelled all the way to Siakago dressed in full UDA party colours, right inside a polling center.”
