ODM MP Amisi Urges Leaders To Learn From By-Elections For 2027 Polls
Caleb Amisi, a Saboti MP, has urged political leaders from all parties to use the recently finished November 27 by-elections as a learning experience ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Amisi stated that the by-elections exposed important characteristics of Kenya’s current political scene.
He warned that politicians who rely on arguments rather than meaningful voter participation risk losing future contests.
“This by-election has provided a good moment to learn and correct,” Amisi said.
“Those who learn will win the next election; those who continue arguing will lose, and life will go on.”

He noted that the results of the by-elections should serve as a warning to leaders to put voter involvement and performance ahead of hyperbole.
Addressing concerns that Kenyan elections are readily rigged, Amisi stated that the by-elections established the reliability of the country’s electoral systems.
“Our IEBC system is effective. Do not buy the notion that elections in Kenya can be easily stolen,” he said.

Amisi also recommended against celebrating narrow victory, pointing out that they may show vulnerabilities in a general election with greater competition and higher stakes.
“Winning with a small margin for an MP seat is not something to celebrate,” he said.
“In 2027, there will be no government machinery or MPs to assist you — you will be on your own.”
The comments follow a competitive round of by-elections in which numerous political parties won parliamentary and ward seats.
The DCP, UDA, UPA, and Wiper Patriotic Front were among the parties that achieved major results.
The uneven results indicate a competitive political atmosphere and highlight the need for candidates to increase their grassroots presence.
Amisi urged that parties reconsider their plans, especially in places where vote margins were unexpectedly close.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has expressed gratitude to voters and stakeholders for participating in the November 27 by-elections.
In a statement on Friday, the Commission thanked citizens who turned out to exercise their democratic rights and acknowledged the support from partners involved in the process.
IEBC also commended its election officials for their dedication, hard work, and professionalism in managing and conducting the by-elections.
