The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating alleged bribery at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) Kisii Campus, following a raid on November 28, 2025.

According to the Commission, the search was undertaken after officers secured court orders to inspect the campus and the houses of several KIHBT and NTSA officials.

The EACC reported that the operation was motivated by accusations that certain instructors were collecting money from students for test-drive examinations.

It was also claimed that students had to pay a facilitation charge of Sh3,100 in order to pass the tests.

According to evidence obtained by investigators, pupils who failed to pay the purported price were listed as unsuccessful.

EACC also investigated reports that some students earned passing grades without taking the practical assessments.

The Commission also stated that it is looking into reports that official tuition feesβ€”set at Sh65,000 plus Sh1,050 for registration and payable solely through the school’s designated pay billβ€”may have been bypassed.

Some pupils apparently told investigators that they paid Sh40,000 directly to professors rather than through formal channels.

According to the EACC, early inquiries have identified mobile money transactions that may be pertinent to the inquiry.

These include suspected transfers of over Sh34 million over three years using one set of mobile numbers and an additional Sh8 million via another.

During the operation, officers apprehended one suspect and discovered Sh171,000 in an envelope inside the suspect’s jacket.

In a statement, the Commission underlined its commitment to combating corruption in public institutions.

It also urged the public to continue reporting suspected wrongdoing via its toll-free hotline and regional offices.

The Commission has stated that it will continue to tighten oversight and promote integrity in public institutions across the country.
