Ruto Flies To The U.S After Trump’s Invitation
President William Ruto has left the country for another diplomatic trip, this time to Washington, D.C., in the United States.
On Tuesday, December 2, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed confirmed the president’s departure.
Mohammed said that Ruto left at President Donald Trump’s invitation to attend the signing of the historic DRC-Rwanda Peace Agreement.
The signing ceremony will be attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi, the two key figures in the agreement.
“At the invitation of President Donald J. Trump, President William Ruto departs this afternoon for Washington, D.C., in the U.S.A. to join President Paul Kagame and President Félix Tshisekedi in witnessing the official signing of the DRC-Rwanda Peace Agreement; the most significant breakthrough in addressing decades of conflict in Eastern DRC,” a statement from State House read.

The agreement between the DRC and Rwanda is a significant step forward in settling the decades-long violence in the Eastern DRC.
The deal will build on previous peace attempts in Nairobi and Luanda, as well as the EAC-SADC collaboration.
Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’Oei, made care to stress Kenya’s stance when he hailed the DRC-Rwanda accord, which was brokered by the US.
The deal is expected to pave the door for armed groups’ disarmament, dissolution, and reintegration while improving humanitarian access to promote regional stability, notably in East and Central Africa.
Kenya played an important part in the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, as well as the larger East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) efforts.

According to the statement, the Head of State will attend the signing of the Kenya-US Health Cooperation Framework.
This will transform a 25-year cooperation into a long-term government-led strategy aimed at improving universal health coverage.

During his tour to the United States, Ruto plans to promote Kenya’s economic transformation program.
This includes human capital development, infrastructural expansion, agro-industrial growth, and large-scale irrigation through dam construction.
The president will also seek Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment in these priority sectors, as well as strengthened energy security initiatives, to help Kenya achieve its long-term development goals.
