State House Puts Clear on The Ruto-Gachagua Status Quo
Hussein Mohamed, a State House spokesperson, denied on Sunday that President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, were feuding.
During a press briefing, the spokeswoman reiterated that the two leaders were working together and referred any further questions to Gachagua’s communications teams.
Mohamed was responding to a journalist who had asked the State House Spokesman about allegations that the President and his deputy were at odds.
The journalist expressed concerns about the country’s leadership as Ruto departs for a State Visit to the United States next week.
“Now that you asked about the President and the deputy president, to my knowledge, there is no issue. The Deputy President’s Office is an office with all the capabilities and competencies,” stated Mohamed.
“If you want to ask any question or find out anything about the Deputy President, they have all the capabilities and you can find out anything about the Deputy President, they have all the capabilities and you can find whatever information you need there.”
Over the weekend, the media was filled with unconfirmed claims that the two leaders had a falling out, leading DP to reduce his public appearances.
The questions arose after the second-in-command skipped a State event during Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s State Visit to Kenya.
According to the sources, the DP skipped 11 state events without providing an explanation.
Political analysts were particularly concerned about the lack of activity on Gachagua’s social media accounts, with the most recent post coming on May 12.
His most recent post on X, formerly Twitter, was posted today (Sunday, May 19), after being offline for more than a week.

On Saturday, politicians loyal to the ruling Kenya Kwanza party denied the existence of a schism between the President and his deputy, advising people to reject the allegations.
National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro stated that Gachagua deserved time to unwind following a rigorous schedule.
“The Deputy President can also have some time to rest and relax. I hear he will be in Nyeri tomorrow so we can wait for him to speak for himself,” Osoro told a congregation.
Julius Ruto, a Kesses MP, backed up Osoro’s point of view, claiming that the government was united and that the reports were misinformation.
