Gender PS Responds To Viral Assault On Nairobi Taxi Driver
The administration has denounced a viral video circulating on social media in which women are said to abuse a cab driver.
On December 23, Anne Wang’ombe, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Gender Affairs, issued a social media statement condemning the women’s acts.
Wang’ombe stated that such actions contravene civil society principles.
“We are profoundly disturbed by the viral video depicting several women assaulting a taxi driver and allegedly refusing to pay for services rendered,” the PS wrote.
“Such conduct is utterly unacceptable and violates the standards of a civil society.”
The PS criticized the assault on the taxi driver, who was attacked by the women in the video.
“The State Department for Gender condemns this act of assault unequivocally,” PS Anne Wang’ombe stated.
The Principal Secretary has stated that the ministry will take action against those engaged in the incident and hold them accountable for their conduct.
“Those responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” The PS announced.
The video depicts a group of women beating a taxi driver whom they had booked online.

According to reports, when the group of women arrived at their destination, they refused to pay the driver and attacked him, as seen in the video.
The incident drew outrage on social media, causing the Principal Secretary to address the issue.

PS Wangombe has now asked the driver to contact the Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services for assistance.
The PS has also requested members of the public with information on the event or the identities of those involved to contact the State Department via the toll-free helpline at 1195 or by direct message.
New reports have emerged showing that the accused women were detained immediately after the incident but were later released after the driver withdrew the case, allegedly for lack of evidence.
