Standard Group Journalist Dies After Short Illness

Rashid Mukoya Idi, a top journalist of the Standard Group, died after a short illness.

According to sources, the journalist fainted at the media firms’ offices before being brought to the hospital, where he died.

Mukoya’s family has since verified his death, stating that he died on Wednesday, December 25, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

It is unclear what caused the journalist’s death or whether a pre-existing medical issue contributed to his fall.

Mukoya was a senior cameraman in the Standard Group’s editorial department. He joined the media company in 2013.

According to the media house, Mokaya has played a vital role in boosting visual storytelling across all of the company’s channels over the last decade.

Among his career highlights was the 2016 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award, which he received alongside journalist Asha Mwilu.

The announcement comes barely two weeks after Festus Amimo, Head of Radio Mayienga at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), died.

The experienced broadcaster hosted the well-known Mayienga FM morning show (Gari Mokinyi).

Mayienga FM characterized the loss as shocking, recalling him as a dedicated professional with an unrivalled passion for radio.
