ODM’S Edwin Sifuna Exposes Gov’t’s Attempts To Frustrate His Faction
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has claimed that the government has been frustrating efforts by a faction within the party to establish a website and mobile money platform to mobilise support for their Linda Mwananchi tours.
Speaking in Nairobi on Friday during the People’s Dialogue Festival at Uhuru Park, Sifuna alleged that the group have faced resistance after gaining significant public attention during their recent engagements.
He claimed that once their rivals and sections within government realised the movement had attracted a large following, they allegedly began spreading propaganda suggesting that he had demanded money to abandon the faction’s political ambitions.
According to Sifuna, his team has also received information about alleged plans to personally bribe him with up to Ksh2 billion in order to halt their campaign against the current broad-based government.
At the same time, he said supporters of the movement had been pushing for the establishment of a paybill number and website to help coordinate their activities and contributions.
However, Sifuna claimed that attempts to set up the digital platforms have repeatedly been blocked.
“I hear they are having plans to bribe us with Ksh2 billion after initial attempts failed,” Sifuna claimed.
“We want to assure you that because this movement is bigger than us, we will not give in to any of their attempts.”
Adding, “They have even blocked our attempts to set up mobile paybill numbers. However, I want to assure you that we will have a solution by the end of the day tomorrow.”
Earlier this week, leaders aligned to the Linda Mwananchi faction of the ODM party distanced themselves from a separate attempt to register a political outfit named the Linda Mwananchi Party.

In a joint submission to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties through their legal representatives, leaders, including Sifuna and Babu Owino, opposed the proposed registration, saying the individual behind the application was not affiliated with their political movement.
The leaders warned that approving the registration could mislead the public and create confusion among supporters who may assume the party is linked to their activities.
Their objection followed a newspaper publication claiming that the faction was in the final stages of registering the outfit as a political party.
According to the report, the individual spearheading the process said the application was under review by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) after he formally applied to reserve the movement’s name pending approval.
