Nyandarua Politician On The Run Following Overnight Chaos In Ol Kalou
Police in Nyandarua have initiated a manhunt for a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) and County Assembly official.
This followed overnight political instability in Ol Kalou, which heightened tensions and sparked new fears about political intolerance ahead of local elections.
Authorities said the violence included property destruction, threats, and intimidation directed at political opponents and businesses suspected of hosting rival groups.
Responding to the event, Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa stated that security authorities would not accept violence, threats, or attempts to disrupt political activity in the area.
You can destroy DCP campaign materials, but you cannot destroy the determination of the people of OlKalou. We call upon the IEBC to act.#OlkalouNiDCP pic.twitter.com/9uvKsIVLNQ— DCP TV (@_DCPTV) July 1, 2026
“We have seen in the last few days incidents involving the destruction of government property and threats,” Jaldesa said.
“We will not allow people, either verbally or physically, to threaten others. Everyone has the right to campaign without being disturbed.”
The County Commissioner further accused some groups of using intimidation tactics against political opponents, including targeting hotels and businesses associated with rival camps.
“There has been intolerance where parties bring groups to intimidate opponents. We will not allow it,” he added.
This comes after tension gripped Ol Kalou on Wednesday night after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen traded accusations.
Mr Rigathi Gachagua, we know your gimmicks and juvenile attempts at reverse psychology.
Try violence in Ol Kalou and you will see.
To anyone being recruited to violence by Mr Gachagua, keep off because the consequences will be dire.— KIPCHUMBA MURKOMEN, E.G.H (@kipmurkomen) July 1, 2026
This follows reports of chaos and gunshots near a hotel during a meeting linked to the Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) party.
The incident occurred ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16, with the DCP party claiming some of its campaign strategists had been trapped inside the hotel as unrest unfolded outside.

Gachagua claimed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed the concerns while warning against incitement during the by-election campaigns.
The County Commissioner further accused some groups of using intimidation tactics against political opponents, including targeting hotels and businesses associated with rival camps.
“There has been intolerance where parties bring groups to intimidate opponents. We will not allow it,” he added.
Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa also condemned incidents where individuals allegedly targeted hotels hosting political meetings.
Jaldesa warned that authorities would protect private property while taking action against misinformation, propaganda and inflammatory statements circulating on social media and in public speeches.
