Sifuna Explains Why He Skipped ODM’s Coast Meetings
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has alleged that organised groups of goons were planted to disrupt political meetings held in Kilifi and Mombasa counties.
The Nairobi Senator claimed the disruptions were premeditated and allegedly targeted at specific leaders, including Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.
He claimed that there was a coordinated effort to interfere with their engagements in the coastal region.
“They want to invite us there, but they have planted goons to attack and beat you up,” Sifuna claimed.
“This was planned in the Kilifi meeting, and the media heard them planning to harass Millie Odhiambo. In the Mombasa meeting, the same thing also happened. Goons had been planted to attack us.”
Claims of hired goons have previously raised concerns over the safety of politicians and their supporters during such events.

On January 12, ODM Members of the Central Management Committee (CMC) held a meeting at Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort in Kilifi county for crucial talks.
Oburu called for the meeting following days of squabbles and public spats involving senior party officials who have differed on the future of ODM following its founding leader, Raila Odinga’s death in October last year.
The party expressed sharp differences, mainly pitting Sifuna against several party officials, with the country witnessing a public spat between the two camps.
Sifuna is leading a camp that is opposed to any cooperation with President William Ruto under the Broad-Based arrangement, a position which sparked calls for him to be removed from the key office.
The embattled SG, among other Linda Mwananchi faction members, failed to attend the Kilifi meeting.

In April, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said over 100 suspected gangs are operating in the country and are allegedly engaged in serious offences.
Murkomen said the gangs and ‘goons’ allegedly enjoy political influence, with some being used in economic activities that include land-grabbing cases.
The CS told a parliamentary committee that the groups have emerged from street goons to sophisticated and well-organised alleged criminal enterprises operating mainly in urban areas.
Outside ‘goonism’, the gangs are allegedly engaged in other activities such as drug trafficking, illicit brews, extortion, and land disputes.
He told MPs that alleged actors are working with some of the gangs to invade and occupy properties in areas such as Mavoko, Kitale, Nakuru, Kakamega and Nairobi, often followed by the hiring of squatters to complicate eviction.
