Uhuru Hosts US TOP Diplomat In Ichaweri Days After Meeting Moi

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed US Chargé d’Affaires Susan Burns to his Ichaweri house in Gatundu, Kiambu County, on Monday.

The encounter was part of a series of meetings between the senior American ambassador and prominent Kenyan political leaders.

Uhuru, who also serves as Jubilee Party leader, posted photos of the courtesy call to his social media sites shortly after the meeting.

However, he did not reveal the agenda for their meeting or make a statement outlining the visit’s outcome.

The meeting came just days after Burns met separately with KANU National Chairman Gideon Moi, highlighting Washington’s ongoing engagement with Kenya’s political leadership across the divide.

Jubilee Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge welcomed Monday’s visit, describing it as recognition of Uhuru’s continued influence on regional and international affairs.

“The former president remains a respected statesman whose contribution to peace, regional security and various diplomatic efforts continues to be recognised internationally,” she said.

Neither the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi nor Uhuru’s office immediately released additional information on the discussions held at the former President’s rural residence.

Burns has in recent months intensified diplomatic engagements with political leaders, government officials, civil society and other stakeholders since assuming office as the United States Chargé d’Affaires in Kenya.

On June 24, Burns met Moi at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi, where the two discussed Kenya’s political and economic landscape, democratic governance and regional stability.

In a statement after the meeting, Moi said they also explored ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kenya and the United States.

“Earlier today, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Susan Burns, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Kenya, for an insightful discussion on a range of issues,” Moi said.

“We exchanged views on Kenya’s current political and economic landscape, democratic governance, regional stability, and cooperation that advance shared values and prosperity for our people.”

According to KANU, the discussions also touched on advancing economic and infrastructure cooperation, support for democratic institutions and peace initiatives, as well as continued U.S. collaboration in the health, peace and technology sectors.

Beyond political engagements, Burns has maintained an active diplomatic schedule that has included meetings with officials involved in the U.S.-Kenya health partnership ahead of the rollout of joint health programmes in July 2026.
