DCI Arrests Former MP Over Ksh6.4 Million Fraud
Former Mathioya Member of Parliament Francis Njakwe Githiari has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over an alleged land fraud scheme involving millions of shillings.
According to the detectives, Githiari was arrested on Thursday, May 14, at his Karen residence after investigations linked him to the false acquisition of Ksh6.4 million from a couple seeking to buy land and construct a home in Ngong.
The DCI revealed that the couple had agreed with the former legislator for the purchase of a parcel of land that was to be developed into a double-storey house.
Githiari reportedly presented himself both as the seller of the land and the contractor responsible for the construction project.
The deal was valued at Ksh40 million with subsequent payments to be made in instalments.

The couple are said to have deposited Ksh6.4 million into Githiari’s account as part of the project’s initial payment.
However, trouble began after the couple made routine visits to the construction site and allegedly discovered claims of ownership disputes surrounding the property.
Reports emerged that other parties had filed a case asserting ownership of the same land, prompting the buyers to immediately stop further payments.
Following the alleged fraud, the matter was then reported to investigators, triggering a probe by detectives from the Land Fraud Investigation Unit.

The detectives found out that the former MP had fraudulently obtained the money by pretence.
Upon completion of the probe, a duplicate police file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges against Githiari.
“After review, the ODPP recommended Githiari be charged with the offence of obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code,” the detectives revealed.
The former lawmaker is currently being processed by detectives and is expected to be arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on May 15, 2026.
