“We Will Not Tolerate Petty, Juvenile Politics!” – Mbadi Tells Winnie Odinga
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has slammed East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga for criticising his performance at the National Treasury, claiming that she lacks the authority to advise him.
On Saturday, May 16, Mbadi addressed a throng in Homa Bay, defending his political experience and leadership qualifications, claiming that he earned his position via years of public service and electoral politics.
“Yesterday, I saw some people trying to advise me on how to be a finance minister. You can’t because you have no capacity to advise me,” Mbadi told Winnie.
Mbadi also discussed his extensive political history, stating that he has served as ODM chairman, Minority Leader for five years, Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, and Treasury CS for two years.

“I have been the chairman of ODM for ten years under Raila Odinga. It is not a mini achievement,” he stated.
“I have also been a Minority Leader for five years. I have now been a minister for two years, and it is not a mini achievement.”
Mbadi further stated that leadership is earned through political experience and public trust, adding that people cannot come from nowhere and start lecturing seasoned leaders.
“First seek an elective position, and then people will start nurturing you as a leader. We are not going to tolerate petty and juvenile politics,” he said.
The Treasury CS also declared that he was ready to seek higher office in future, saying he had the capacity to lead the country even as president once President William Ruto completes his term.
“We are also ready to lead. This country is not for a few people. I am ready to lead this country as the president,” Mbadi added.
“Therefore, you cannot advise me. If you want to come to the field against me in politics, I am ready.”

His remarks came a day after Winnie Odinga criticised him, insisting that the National Treasury should not be turned into a political platform.
“The National Treasury is not a political office. The National Treasury is not a personal office,” Winnie said.
“The National Treasury of the largest economy in East and Central Africa is not a platform for you to abuse us and talk to us however you want.”
Winnie faulted what she described as a rising culture of political arrogance among leaders.
She warned that Kenyans are increasingly frustrated by aggressive and dismissive communication from those in authority.
