“Kenya Has Enough Fuel Reserve!” – CS Wandayi Assures

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has assured the country of adequate gasoline supplies, amid reports of shortages in sections of the region as a result of the current Middle East conflict.

Wandayi, who toured petrol stations in Nairobi and Machakos counties, says the government is still committed to guaranteeing an uninterrupted fuel supply and has urged Kenyans to be calm.

He stated that once global conditions stabilize, Kenyans could profit from lower pump costs.

“All our storage facilities and the pipeline are full of petroleum products,” he said.

“As a matter of fact, vessels and ships are lining up at the port waiting to discharge, and that tells you that in terms of the supply chain, normalcy has returned because of the measures the government has put in place.”

While admitting the difficulty of rising fuel prices, which has diminished Kenyans’ purchasing power, Wandayi believes the crisis is temporary owing to the prolonged Middle East conflict.

He promised that once stability returns to the region, Kenyans will benefit from reduced pump prices.

“Even though we cannot predict how the situation in the Middle East will end or when it will end, we are sure that when it ends, the benefits that will accrue will trickle down to consumers in Kenya in the fullness of time,” he noted.

As the country witnessed protests triggered by the hike in fuel prices, the Cabinet Secretary has urged Kenyans to remain calm.
